How to read this site
PLACES is a CDC project that estimates, for every small area in the country, what share of adults report each of 40 conditions, behaviours, preventive services, disabilities and social needs. The estimates come from a statistical model fitted to the national Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System and applied to each area's Census population; no one surveyed your ZIP Code. Every figure therefore carries a 95% confidence interval, and this site never calls one area higher or lower than another unless the two intervals do not overlap. The guides explain the method, the intervals and what the figures cannot tell you; the 2025 release page lists what CDC changed this year.
